3rd Poetry Session

This evening, 26th April 2012,  at the Goethe Zentrum Windhoek, Township Productions in collaboration with the Goethe Zentrum Windhoek, will host a group of published poets will present their work as part of the ongoing poetry month.

They will be joint by another poet who will be launching his poetry collection at the same evening. And as in the previous Poetry Sessions, the audience will be invited to share their poems as well. Come join us tonight at the 3rd Poetry Session.at 19h30.

Poetry Month Celebration in 4 Sessions

Township Productions launched the celebration of Poetry Month with the 1st Session on the 12th April 2012. Poets shared their poems and had the opportunism to answer questions with fellow poets and audience members. The session took place ate the Goethe Zentrum Windhoek, the collaborative partners and was funded by the National Arts Council of Namibia (NACN)

On the 19th April 2012, a group of female poets will grace the stage of the Goethe Zentrum Windhoek with poetry under the theme Fool's Whisper. The poetry session will feature a selected number of female poets reciting and dramatically presenting their work. Other female poets will also join the "Power of Five"

In the mean time, Township Productions is running a Secondary School Poetry Competition, with 11 schools from the Erongo Region participating. ON the evening of 28 April 2012, poets from the participating schools will walk away with cash prizes. This is a pilot project and upon the success of the 1st competition, a National Poetry Competition will be introduced to the Namibia poetry community. Township Productions is looking forward to realizing the National Poetry Competition.

Poetry Month 2012

Township Productions in collaboration with the Goethe Zetrum - Windhoek, will be hosting 3 poetry sessions in Windhoek during the month of April. On 12th April 2012 invited poets will share their work at the Goethe Zetrum for the 1st Poetry Session. This will be followed by the 2nd session on the 19th of April at the same venue. This Poetry y Session will entirely be dedicated entirely to women poets who will recite and present their work under the theme of Fool's Whisper. The 3rd Poetry Session will partly focus on readings by published poets and also unpublished poets.

The purpose of the Poetry Sessions is to celebrate the month of poetry and to promote and share poetry with poets and enthusiast. The sessions will host known, unknown young, and elderly poets and aspiring poets.  We are looking forward to another experience of inspiring words and fascinating writing styles and presentations.

Secondary School Poetry Competition Launched

1st Secondary School Poetry Competition '12

In an effort to continue with the promotion and expansion of poetry, we are initiating a Secondary School’s Poetry Competition. This will be piloted in the Erongo Region and will only target secondary schools in Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Henties Bay and Arandis. The selection is dictated by the geographical proximity of the four towns. The Erongo Regional Directorate of Education is in full support of the project as enthusiastic as the organisers of Township Productions..

The project is funded by the National Arts Council of Namibia and will be launched on the 12th of March 2012 at the Swakop Secondary School at 10h00. At the launch the guidelines of the poetry competition will be announced and each of the participating Schools will then invite their learners to submit poems for the competition.

There are cash prizes to be won at the end of the competition. On the 28th of April, the winners of the competition will be announced and cash prizes handed over to the learners who win. The school of the winning learner will also receive a cash prize.

World Poetry Month Celebration

Township Productions is planning a series of poetry sessions as part of the Worked Poetry Month in April. In 2011, Township productions initiated the first ever World Poetry Month Celebrations in Windhoek and the 3 Sessions were all well received and left the audience wanting for more.

The World Poetry Month Celebrations are back and already a number of poets are lined up for the sessions. The 3 poetry sessions will be co-hosted by the Goethe Centre in Windhoek.

Going to be?
This one or that one?
Still trying to line them up
before I write them down.

Struggled with organising
the lines and verses
Ideas that flooded
My mind  and heart
Wait! Before I write you

Let me get a pen and a paper
And then only open
The flood gates.
Hope I will be able to keep up
And put down my mind
On paper and call it a poem
