Foreword By Tee Ngugi

Space and time seem to remain unchanged in Africa. That was the thought that oppressed me when I read Joseph Molapong’s poetry anthology - The Scars on My Skin, for even though I am from the geographical space that is Kenya, the theme of disillusionment with the post-colonial Namibia that permeates the poems, was painfully familiar. The demons that have tormented Namibia since gaining Independence in 1990 are the same ones that torment Kenya, fifty years after gaining her Independence in 1963. But this is not just Namibia’s and Kenya’s predicament. It would seem to be Africa’s fate. In Africa, the promise of Independence now suffocates under greed and cynicism, as the ruling elite and their allies retreat behind well-guarded walls, abandoning the rest of us to poverty, disease and hopelessness. And yet even in the depths of despair, Mola remains defiant and hopeful. And he reminds us that even in the squalor of our lives, there is time for love. The African spirit, the human spirit, is hobbled, yes, yet it still trudges towards its destiny of true freedom.

Keamogetsi j. Molapong has combined two disciplines which are poetry and art into a highly visual and wonderfully readable series of perspective that will delight the eye and inspire the mind. The Scars on My Skin brings levity and humor to the otherwise painful negativity of the liberal political views. These poems show us good and bad choices that were made and help us to take care of our future. Teaching youth self-worth is incredibly important. Molapong’s book does so in a way that is both fun and serious at the same time. Teens will enjoy reading the poems and parents will be confident that they are learning the values that they hold dear. The Scars on My Skin is full of intuitive and entertaining stories that will teach children economic and political lessons that will prepare them for adult life. The collection of romantic poems speak true emotions something that readers will really appreciate and never ever forget.

Blurb about The Scars on my Skin by Martin Seeger

I met Keamogetsi joseph Molapong. in 2010 and we worked  together on an inter-cultural and international theater project on poverty in the so-called 3rd world.. And although my English is not the best, I felt the poetry and the power in his words  and in his nature. He filled the stage with an incredible presence and he captured his audience with  a fascinating game between the message and his messenger. Reading  now his poems,in The Scars on my Skin, I am completely convinced that he is an exceptional poet who does follow his own path.

Poetry and ME

Like I said I have been
off the poetry radar for two years
And it has been a journey of solitude
and of soul searching.
Conceiving so many words,
 images, ideas and stanza's
And yet keep them all
cropped up inside.

Not sure what to expect
But I am prepared
to listen to the inside of the me

Two Years of Absence

For a little more than two years
I have been absent from the poetry scene
mainly as a performer
However I have done
background work with various poets
and poetry related projects.

For the year 2014
I will be gracing different stages
with my poetry and thoughts
Trust that the might of the Word
will again bring to the fore
My ideals and convictions.

I am looking forward to 2014
As a performing poet.

Keep your eye on this space
I will fill it up with Words
